|Is looking at ClamAV as a secondary anti virus scanner in Mailsweeper and it is looking good, but it is not so stable with the windows version(s) of ClamAV that i have tested.|
The best result i have is when i run ClamD(server) on a Linux box and use my own home build ClamD(client) in Mailsweeper, it works by the plug in in Mailsweeper is sending the files to get scanner over the network to the ClamD server on the Linux box and then it return the result to the client...
I have not jet done so much testing but it looks to be okay fast when the ClamD is on a Linux box and maybe faster the the Mcafee command line scanner that i am also running today.
Not all like to jump into Linux, but it is not so bad to setup and if your running VMware like me on the servers it is just another VM next to the Mailsweeper VM and in fact I think it is possible to download a finish VM with ClamD installed from the VMware site, so it is maybe just download and config a VM with ClamAV and then setup a plugin in Mailsweeper
I Had some problems with the ClamD clients there exist on Windows platform do use multi backend ClamD server and stability, timeouts, retry scanning if server fail and some other things. So i have end up just looking at theirs code and then code my own version there is design from the ground up to be a stable plug-in for Mailsweeper, for now the plug-in is not ready for public use and it will on how well it works if i ever will release this or not.
Why not test it and see if it usable to stop Virus and other bad items with
* Its free
* Open source
* Over 100.000 signatures in the database and growing fast.
So time and a lot of testing will tell if this is working well and if I will make my plug-in public, I will post status here in my blog so stay tuned
